Disclosure Alert: Preparing For New Climate Risk Requirements

CATEGORY: Specialized Knowledge & Applications
COURSE ID: W818T, VERSION 1.00
  Webinar
1 CPE Credits
Level: Update
Over the last several years, there has been an intensifying interest in the business community for clarity about companies’ climate-related business risks. Concern has manifested itself in the demand for reliable and decision-useful information provided to investors and other corporate stakeholders. In reaction, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed climate risk disclosure requirements for its registrants.

In addition, the European Union has issued a Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) mandating comparable disclosures, and the California legislature has passed two climate disclosure bills that have been signed by its Governor into law. These initiatives vary in their requirements but are consistent in their intent to promote transparency in reporting on climate risk and on companies’ assessment of their exposure to those risks. In combination, they impose new reporting requirements on thousands of companies doing business in these jurisdictions. Satisfaction of those requirements will largely be borne by accounting professionals in those companies and many of those in public practice. This webinar is designed to alert those accounting professionals to the breadth and depth of these disclosure requirements and their imminent implementation.

Who should attend: CPAs in public practice and those in the corporate environment.
