E-Commerce, Taxes, and the Impact of South Dakota v Wayfair

CATEGORY: Taxation
  Online & Mobile
4 CPE Credits
Level: Basic

2020 was a difficult year for most, but the world of e-commerce and retail sales evolved to meet the challenges of pandemic life. Retailers and sellers of goods and services, both large and small, explored new avenues to reach customers, with many of those avenues being tech-enabled and accessible to buyers well beyond the reach of a typical local retailer. Today, it is charming but increasingly rare to find a business that only operates locally within a single state. So most businesses and sellers, as well as the tax practitioners that advise them, need to be aware of borderless business issues. In this course, we focus upon the newly-unveiled universe of states and sometimes local municipalities, requiring that sellers located outside of that jurisdiction collect and remit taxes to that jurisdiction as though they were local. This is the universe of post-Wayfair taxes. Welcome!
